Enablement training

In our perception CBR staff should be creative problem solvers, being able to propose out-of-the-box solutions for problems met in the field. We enhance reflective reasoning skills in our training, building on the experiential learning cycle. We offer both regular and tailor-made courses in Community Based Rehabilitation and Disability Inclusive Development.

CBR for Inclusive Development

Our documentary “CBR for Inclusive Development” displays the realities of CBR in the field. Filmmaker Thomas Koopman spent one month in Nepal to visit several project sites of the Karuna Foundation Nepal.

The documentary highlights the key position of CBR facilitators in Community Based Rehabilitation. You will find good practices as well as challenges covered in all domains of the WHO CBR Matrix.

RehApp

Rehabilitation Knowledge Base for fieldworkers.

The RehApp Mobile app is freely available for fieldworkers in low-and middle-income countries and aims to enhance their capacity to work with people with disabilities within the community: assess their abilities and inabilities, design rehabilitation interventions, provide care and support and refer appropriately.

It consists of different chapters – covering various types of impairments – organised according to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, commonly known as the ICF. The RehApp offers fieldworkers basic information on possible causes, signs and symptoms related to a specific impairment and provides practical intervention options at personal, relational and societal level. The RehApp ensures that fieldworkers always have relevant and practical information at hand. However, the RehApp is not meant to perform medical examination and services. Users will need to rely on a correct diagnosis by a (medical) specialist first!

The RehApp is available for free, and once downloaded, can be used in any setting without internet access. The chapters on Amputation, Burns, Cerebral Palsy, Clubfoot, Leprosy and Spinal Cord Injury are currently available.

Enablement, along with various experts in the field of disability, are also busy developing more chapters, including Albinism, Communication Disability, Developmental Dysplasia Hip, Epilepsy, Hearing Impairment, Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, Intellectual Disabilities, Mental Health-Psychiatry, Muscular Dystrophy, Post-Polio Paralysis, Spina Bifida (and Hydrocephalus), and Stroke.
